Burma has a long history of story telling by Puppet theatre . The king was viewed as a demigod , and as such actors were not allowed to take his role .

A very rare late 19thC Burmese Nat figure. Dressed in traditional court clothes , with a dog around its neck.
The story from Burmese folk law of this particular Nat , is not one that i know .
50 cm tall .
Carved figures of lower dieties ( nats ) are a feature of Burmese religious culture .Nat worship ,and alchemy were incorperated into Buddhism when the state adopted it as the state religion.

a NUMBER OF THE PETELS OF THE FLOWERING LOTUS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, AND ONE OF THE ELEPHANT EARS HAS HAD SOME RESTORATION.
